Only Mine....

So, I am the oldest kid at home now! I don't really mind it...of course I miss my oldest brothers but change like this is sometimes good. For the past few years I always knew this time would come when God would take us on different paths and I am very thankful for my brothers who are go-getters and will tackle anything the Lord gives them. David and Matt have played a BIG role in my life....they were who "trained" me and made me into their little tough sister who played cowboys with them, who didn't mind getting dirty, and the little girl that when she played dress up with them she dressed up in army gear. They taught me how to: hook a worm at a young age, shoot a gun, clean dead animals for eating, ride a horse (how to fall off a horse), run through the woods barefoot, have a "dirt-bomb" fight, and I still remember when they "taught" (a.k.a) made me ride a bike without training wheels. So you see, they have always been there for me...I was practically raised by them. I am ever so thankful that God gave me older brothers....they are the best! But this post isn't just about them...its about my family. My crazy, wonderful, something slightly neurotic family!

The day before David left he gave me a bottle of pepper spray and told me if I ever had to use it...to use all at once on the same guy. :) Its not much of a replacement for my big brother protector but its better then nothing.

One for all and all for one!

Yeah, umm only my family....

Don't ask what we were doing here....(cuz im not sure)
Ahh, yes we look normal there...

Here? Yeah, not so much...

Other things may change us, but we start and end with family
.
In time of test, family is best.

We may not have it all together....but together we have it all!

Katy + Lizzy = Best Friends Forever

I still remember the first day I saw her....she was sitting behind me in church and I kept turning around staring at her. I was curious. Who was this new girl? I would soon find out. We introduced ourselves but little did we know that soon we would become the best of friends! We were about 8 years old when we first met...

But we definitely "clicked" from the first moment! We have shared many many memories together! We haven't had too many disagreements but when we do we don't argue we just ignore each other until we get over it and then all is good and well again. Laughter, smiles, and inside jokes are always near when we are together.

I am blessed with MANY wonderful amazing friends but I would like to just thank Katy Marie for being such a GREAT friend and to tell her how much she means to me! After going 24 days (I think the longest ever) without seeing her it really made me realize how much she means to me!

My Chocolate Chip is a very unique and amazing person! She is so much fun to be around and can always brighten my day and make me smile when I need it! KT is so caring and thoughtful! The quote, "A best friend is someone who knows all about you and still likes you" fits perfectly for Katy and I. We've had our ups and downs just like any BFFs but over the past 9 years our friendship has only done one thing....became unbreakable.

I remember ever so clearly one day when you were over at my house many years ago and we were up in "our" tree that we always climbed and talking about when we are"big" girls and everything that we would do! From playing dolls and making up stories to writing books and sharing high school problems you've been by my side! So, Katay dear thanks SO much for a being super fantastic best friend! You mean SO much to me and I thank God for blessing me with you!

I LOVE YOU!!!!!!

Christmas in New Orleans

Many of my childhood Christmas memories were spent at my Maw-Maw's and Paw-Paw's house in New Orleans, LA. But over the years since our "Oubre" family has extended (to about 40 poeple) we have moved the party to my Aunt's mansion.

My aunt's tree and all the many gifts!

Me and my adorable cousin Jada
My handsome cousin Landen

Opening gifts!

My family on Christmas day

The girl cousins

The guy cousins

The 5 siblings
The best picture we could get with all the many grandchildren!

It was the first time I remember that alllll of the family was there! Another chapter of Christmas memories packed away in my book!

My Grandmother-Mama-Jo

Last week on Friday December 17, 2010 I was awaken with the worst news….my very dear grandmother had passed away early that morning. I really could not believe it. The last time I had seen her she was fine…well fine from what I had known of her…for the past 11 years of her life she had had several medical problems—starting with Kidney failure. She went 6 years without a kidney (which is very difficult) and by God’s mercy He finally provided her with one which gave her 7 more years of life. Mama-Jo was a very Godly dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, she spent her life living for God and her family. You can ask anyone who knew her and they would tell you that she was one of the most caring and thoughtful person alive. I am so thankful that I had her in my life for the short seventeen years I did.

At her funeral I met over 200 people who knew my Grandmother and I cannot recall how many comments I heard along the lines of “your grandmother was a very special person” “your grandmother was one of the best people I knew” “joann was always helping someone”. My grandmother has left a great legacy, she lived a wonderful God honoring life, and I will never forget all the memories I had with her or all the words of wisdom she gave me. One of the last things I remember her telling me was, “Elizabeth, think of your future. The decisions you make now will determine it.”

I was so very blessed to have Joann Carnley as my grandmother and I hope that one day I will affect as many lives as she did, and shine brightly for God!
