Hospital Memories

Well, we have not posted on here in a while, so I decided to share some pictures with everyone that were taken while Lizzy was in the hospital. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of Lizzy when she was in the ICU, but I do have these pictures of what we did while we were waiting for a chance to go back and see her (only two people were allowed back in her ICU room at a time.)

"Mau" came in very handy while we waited! :-D

Luke watching TV and lookin' at John's hand :-)

Danny's gotta be in a picture! :-P

After Lizzy was moved to a regular room, we had a little celebration! :-D We (McCurdy kids) and the Kelly kids went up to her room after co-op and hung out for a while. Below are some pictures that we took as we talked, played games, reminisced, and praised God for Lizzy's recovery.

The Girls would not leave Lizzy's side the whole night!

Playing "Mau" - again!

Then we decided to change it up and play "Spoons" - or more accurately, "Pens"! :-P

Group picture! :-D

And of course, we could not leave until we had done a silly picture! :-P

Well, that's all the pictures I have to remember those days. Even if we did not have these pictures,  Lizzy's accident will not be soon forgotten by any of us. Every time I see Lizzy, I realize how delicate life is. Just the thought of loosing any of my friends makes me thank God all the more for every hour he lets me spend with them. :-D

Love ya, Lizzy!!! <3

A Note From Lizzy:

As many of you know last Wednesday on April 21st I was kicked by my horse in the ribs and ruptured my spleen. I was thrown to the ground and all I remember was being in extreme pain, not being able to breath, couldn’t see very well and couldn’t find my phone. I don’t know how long I was there but eventually my riding student’s mom found me on the ground and got me inside. None of my family was home and I could not get in touch with anyone. Finally, I was able to get a hold of my mom (who was at her mom’s house in Louisiana) and she called her best friend and who is also our neighbor and my Aunt Nancy. Aunt Nancy wasn’t home but came as quick as she could and rushed me to the emergency room.

The car ride there was horrible! I have never been in so much pain in my life, the hardest thing about it was it was a consent pain and never let up. It seemed like an eternity before we made it to the ER. And once we did it took forever in there! There was a long line and I had to wait my turn….so I am laying in the emergency room waiting for my number to be called thinking I am dying.
My number was called after much waiting and then it took forever…they asked me a ton of questions and insisted on getting my blood pressure. Finally a nurse walked by and saw me and asked what was wrong and when he heard the story he rushed me back to Trauma center even though the ER nurses said I was “fine”.

Thankfully once I got to trauma everything started moving faster and some of my family arrived. I was still in the worst pain of my life. After many tests were completed my status was discovered. The doctor came in and told me I had ruptured my spleen…not knowing how serious that was I said to the doctor “so can I go home?” and I will never ever forget the look on his face when he replied “Elizabeth, im about to do surgery on you.”

After much deliberation the doctor decided because of my age it would be wise to wait it out and see I could survive without surgery. I was moved out of trauma and into ICU would I would spend the next 5 days of my life. It was the longest and hardest week of my life. They had to take blood every 6 hours and I was on morphine 24 hours. I was kinda crazy in ICU.....my friends can tell ya....that morphine did brain damage I think....

You know you hear about how fast life can change but you never understand it until you experience it. I came very close to death. Little did I know when I woke up in Wednesday morning that the next week of my life I would be in the hospital.

But as I suffered in ICU for many long hours and saw many faces I kept telling myself the verse “Be still and know that I am God….” That promise from God has given me such peace countless times in my life. One of the nights I was in the hospital I was in horrible pain and there was nothing to be done…I was begging God for Him to relive me of the pain but I realize that I had not thanked and praised my God. He had spared my life and given me the strength to endure this trail. Everyone told me how tough I was/am but only through Him did I survive….He not only gave me the strength but He gave me the trail to make me stronger. Such a blessing! My God is great and He gave this to me for my good, it is a tool He is using to shape and mold me into the servant I am created by Him to be. When I came to this understanding I had a peace within me and was able to rest in His arms.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and no to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

-Lizzy Ruth-

P.S. A big THANK YOU to everyone who came and visited me in the hospital and for everything you did for me and my family!!!
