Last week on Friday December 17, 2010 I was awaken with the worst news….my very dear grandmother had passed away early that morning. I really could not believe it. The last time I had seen her she was fine…well fine from what I had known of her…for the past 11 years of her life she had had several medical problems—starting with Kidney failure. She went 6 years without a kidney (which is very difficult) and by God’s mercy He finally provided her with one which gave her 7 more years of life. Mama-Jo was a very Godly dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, she spent her life living for God and her family. You can ask anyone who knew her and they would tell you that she was one of the most caring and thoughtful person alive. I am so thankful that I had her in my life for the short seventeen years I did.
At her funeral I met over 200 people who knew my Grandmother and I cannot recall how many comments I heard along the lines of “your grandmother was a very special person” “your grandmother was one of the best people I knew” “joann was always helping someone”. My grandmother has left a great legacy, she lived a wonderful God honoring life, and I will never forget all the memories I had with her or all the words of wisdom she gave me. One of the last things I remember her telling me was, “Elizabeth, think of your future. The decisions you make now will determine it.”
I was so very blessed to have Joann Carnley as my grandmother and I hope that one day I will affect as many lives as she did, and shine brightly for God!
